The diode laser add-on is equipped with a 5W diode laser. Due to varying wavelengths, it is able to engrave directly on stainless steel.
1. Enabling the Diode Laser
After installing the diode laser add-on, the diode laser can be controlled in Beam Studio, switching laser types in between different layers.
To use the diode laser add-on, go to “Preferences” (Mac: Menu > Beam Studio > Preferences; Windows: Menu > File > Preferences), select the diode laser option under add-ons. To set the offset values, please refer to step 2.
In “Menu > Edit > File settings”, enabling or disabling the diode laser add-on targeted at single files is allowed.
2. Calibrating the Diode Laser
Before using the diode laser, it requires calibrating to acquire the offset values between the laser heads. The reason is due to that in the diode laser add-on, the position in which the laser occurs for different types of lasers vary. Calibration can be activated via “Menu > Machine > ‘Your Machine’ > Calibrate diode laser add-on”. The steps are similar to camera calibration.
3. Switching Lasers
After enabling diode laser, in the layers’ laser parameter panel, an additional “diode laser” option can be found. After selecting these options, using the diode laser add-on’s diode laser function in the targeted layer will be allowed.
In the layer where the diode laser function is selected, notice that certain parts of the work area are restricted (displayed in grey). The restrictions to the upper right corner are due to that in the diode laser add-on, the position in which the diode laser occurs is to the bottom left corner, resulting in a certain part of the upper right corner which cannot be processed. The area restrictions aimed at the bottom left corner is due to the size of the diode laser add-on, which prevents the laser head from reaching that particular area.
4. Recommended Parameters
Higher power percentages are allowed for the diode laser. For stainless steel, we recommend setting the power ratio to 100%, and 3~5mm/s for speed.
5. Others
No Laser Beam Output from the Diode laser head :
-
- Did not follow the above steps in Beam Studio.
- "Power Rate" is too low. Please set to "x1.0"
- Diode Laser Module's signal is not connected
- Checked the fan on the top of the Diode laser module is working. If it isn't, please check the following:
- Go to touchscreen > Maintain > Press the "Cam led" button. If the fan above the Diode laser module means the signal is on.
- If Diode laser module is still not working, please contact FLUX Support.
