Description
This article will explain in detail how to use the Beambox II wide-angle camera kit with Beam Studio for camera calibration and preview functions.
If you haven't installed the wide-angle camera kit yet, please refer to this article first: Installing the Wide-Angle Camera Kit.
The entrance of Wide-Angle Camera calibration
Step 1 - Prepare Materials
Materials Required:
- A4 size (or letter size) calibration pattern
- Four sheets of A4 (or Letter size )white paper
Please download the calibration pattern from the calibration steps.
Step 2 - Capture Calibration Pattern
2-1. Place the calibration pattern in the designated positions as instructed, in the following order: top-left > top-right > bottom-left > bottom-right > center.
Please note: Incorrect placement of the checkerboard pattern may cause inverted calibration results. Make sure to place it correctly.
| top left | |
| top right | |
| bottom left | |
| bottom right | |
| center | |
If the photo cannot be recognized or has low recognition quality, an error message will appear after capturing. Please check if the calibration pattern is placed correctly, or if there is noticeable exposure on the pattern that may prevent it from being recognized.
2-2. After capturing five photos, a score will be given based on the calibration quality. The average score is typically in the "Average" result (the score between 1 ~ 2), with lower scores indicating better results.
Step 3 - Engrave Marker Points
Place four A4 white sheets flat on the workarea and tape them together to prevent shifting or lifting.
After performing autofocus on the white paper, close the lid and click "Start Engrave" to start engraving the markers.
A total of four sets of calibration points will be marked, with 4 points in each set, for a total of 16 points.
Step 4 - Align Marker Points(at Focusing Height )
After engraving is complete, open the lid to allow the wide-angle camera to capture the image. The software will sequentially capture the points from four parts: top-left, top-right, bottom-left, and bottom-right.
The point order within each part is as follows:
0 1
2 3
When clicking a specific point, a reference image of its position will appear in the lower right corner. Please make sure the center of the red dot aligns with the marker as closely as possible.
Step 5 - Confirm Calibration Result
After aligning the markers, the software will display the alignment results. Please zoom in to check the images. If you notice any significant misalignment, please redo the calibration.
Step 6 - Align Marker Points(at Lower Height )
The software will automatically lower the platform and take another photo. Simply repeat the marker alignment steps as described above.
Step 7 - Confirm Calibration Result
After completing the marker alignment, the system will display the alignment results again. As in Step 5, please zoom in to review the image carefully. If there is any noticeable deviation, please redo the calibration.

Please note that slight angle differences may occur each time the lid is opened, which could affect alignment accuracy.
