MDF and synthetic boards, like laminated boards, are relatively dense because they have adhesive in the middle. This means that when you engrave them, they will produce a lot of smoke, creating unwanted dark burn marks.
We can use masking tape to protect the areas to prevent it.
Preparation
1. Prepare the masking tape with paper-based adhesive material. DO NOT USE PVC(Vinyl) TAPE.
2. Attach the masking tape evenly to the position for cutting/engraving. If the tape is not attached tightly, the warped edge of the tape might cause a fire.
3. After the laser processing, tear off the masking tape. The burnt mark generated during engraving will be separated by the paper tape, as shown in the example below, the right side is the result with the masking tape, and the left side is the result without it.
