Description
The Open-Bottom Engraving feature is used for engraving long objects that exceed the standard work area. It helps users automatically divide large design files into multiple work areas, making it easy to engrave segment by segment.
Limitations
Due to the physical limitations of the HEXA RF open-bottom slot, it is recommended that the material width does not exceed 500mm, while the length is unlimited.
Before You Start
Please ensure the Open-Bottom Engraving module is correctly installed. Refer to the tutorial at the link below. If you have already completed the installation, please skip this step.
Open-Bottom Hardware Installation Guide
Step 1 - Enable Open-Bottom Engraving
Enable the Open-Bottom Engraving toggle in Document Settings and enter your desired work area dimensions.
Step 2 - Import the Object
Import the object (using a rectangular outline as an example below) and adjust its size and position.
Click the Open-Bottom Engraving icon displayed on the left toolbar to enter the Open-Bottom Engraving window.
Step 3 - Adjust Open-Bottom Engraving Parameters
Settings Description
- Object Length: Displays the length of your currently selected object to help you determine the height of each work area.
- Work Area Height: You can set how many work segments this open-bottom object will be divided into for cutting, and you can inspect the engraving content of each segment in the window.
- Reference Layer: This layer serves as a reference and only provides an alignment display function; it will not be actually engraved.
- Alignment Marks: The alignment marks are two triangle marks that need to be engraved across the main material and the auxiliary material. When moving the board after each engraving segment, you can use the triangle marks to assist with alignment.
Using the figure below as an example, the object length is 450mm. If the work area height is set to 250mm, this object will be divided into two segments in total.
The dashed line indicates the division point for each work area.
It is generally recommended to minimize the number of segments to avoid potential misalignment at the connection points due to slight errors.
Export the design file after completing the settings.
Step 4 - Engraving Job
If you are using alignment marks, you will need to prepare an auxiliary material board.
Step 4.1 - Preparation for Engraving
Secure the auxiliary material next to the main material.
Enable "Start from Current Position" and move the laser head to the top left corner of the material to be engraved.
Enable "Start from Current Position" and set the starting point to the top left corner.
(You can also use "Start from Origin", but please note that the laser tube needs to be moved to the right side to prevent homing failure.)
Use "Framing" to confirm the engraving position of the first segment of the design.
Please note: Turn off the Reference Layer during Framing.
Confirm the position of the alignment marks using the Framing position; the marks need to span across both the main material and the auxiliary material.
(Using the default 4cm alignment mark as an example, ensure the laser head extends about 2cm onto the auxiliary material during Framing.)
Step 4.2 - Engraving the First Segment
By default, only the first work segment and the alignment marks are enabled when the file is exported. After adjusting the parameters, you can directly start engraving the first work area.
After the engraving is complete, a portion of the alignment mark should be on the auxiliary material.
Step 4.3 - Engraving the Second Segment
Turn off the first work segment layer and turn on the second work segment layer.
Move the main material, align the lower alignment mark on the main material with the upper mark on the auxiliary material, and then proceed with the second segment of the engraving.
