Beambox II & HEXA RF - Rotary Module 2.0 Installation Guide

Description

This article will guide you through how to start an engraving task with FLUX Rotary 2.0.

Note:
Before starting the engraving, please use Beam Studio version 2.6.5.
Additionally, the framing feature is used to verify that the accuracy of the engraving area and size is correct.
(Referring to Step 17.)

Rotary 2.0 can work with Beambox II with or without the Extension Pocket. Therefore, there will be two combinations in this article. Please see the instructions that correspond to your setup.

Beambox II + Extension Pocket + Rotary 2.0

Step 1

Install the BB2 Extension Pocket Add-on, referring to the guide below.

Step 2

Please make sure you have the following software and firmware versions to use the rotary function.

Beam Sutdio Version

Machine Firmware Version 

Version 2.6.5 or above (Guide)
  • Beambox II - Version 6.0.7 or above. (Guide) 
  • HEXA RF - Version 6.2.4 or above (Guide)

Step 3

Re-install the platform bracket.

Step 4

Measure your material's diameter or circumference and record it for later use.
(It's recommended to use the material used for practicing and testing purposes for the first time.)

Step 5

Please see the table below to install the correct rotary stands and choose the proper focus lens distance according to your object's diameter.

 

Focus Mode Explanation

By default, the focus lens will be at the top, and the focus lens will be 4mm, meaning the distance between the nozzle tip and the surface of the material will have a distance of 4mm.


For smaller materials, the nozzle tip might not reach the default 4mm. Therefore, increasing the distance can be applied by changing the lens's position to the bottom of the nozzle.
When the lens is at the bottom, the distance between the tip and the surface can be increased to 16mm.

How do you change the position of the lens?

1. Disassemble the Lens

 

2. Determine the Order of the Focus Mode
 
Focus Mode: 4mm (Default) Focus Mode: 16mm

Block Lens
Ring Ring
Nozzle Nozzle

 

3. Re-assemble the Lens
  1. The red side of the block has to be facing down.
  2. The curved side of the lens has to be facing up.
    (A tip to quickly determine the curved side is that it should reflect your whole face when you look at it.)
  3. Rotate the ring counterclockwise to tighten it up.

 

Short & Long Stands Explanation

The stands are used to place on the platform bracket. The rotary will be on the stands to be raised or lowered manually or using the automatic platform.

Difference

Short Stands Long Stands
It is shorter in height and used for smaller objects.  It is longer in height and used for larger objects.

How do you install the stands?

  1. There will be holes on the platform bracket designed for the stands.
  2. The stands have shafts that can be inserted into the holes.
  3. Change the distance between the shafts if necessary.

 

Step 6

After installing the stands, ensure the machine is powered off.
Please find the connection cable from the box and insert the cable on the machine's rear-left side. 


Step 7

Place the rotary on the stands and insert the cable into the device.
*Please ensure the power is off. Plugging the cable while the machine is on may damage the rotary.


Here is a demonstration of how to adjust the rollers of the rotary.
(Simply press and hold the button at the right, and the rollers can be moved freely)

Step 8

Power up the machine and go to "Hardware Settings" to choose the correct focus mode.

Machine >> Hardware Settings >> Next page >> Focus Mode >> Choose the correct one

Step 9

Place the material on the rotary and level it if necessary using the support module.

Step 10

Perform auto-focus.
*If your auto-focus does not work, please refer to the article for the manual focus method.

Steps:

  1. Lower the bed if necessary.
  2. Lower the focus probe to the ready-to-focus position.
  3. Move the focus probe close to the surface of the material.
  4. Raise the bed to see if the probe can touch the surface.
  5. Perform auto-focus by double-clicking the "AF" button.
  6. Lift the focus probe back to the stand-by position.

Step 11

  • Enable the red laser light that will come out from the nozzle tip.
    If your red laser is enabled already, please skip this step.


     

  • Machine >> Hardware Settings >> Next page >> Red Light Steady >> ON

Step 12

Move the nozzle tip to the center of the area you wish to engrave.
The red light dot indicates and determines the starting position.


Step 13

Launch Beam Studio.

Step 14

Go to "Document Settings" and make the changes.


 

1.
Change the Working Area to your machine.
2. 
Choose the correct laser source of your machine. (HEXA RF only)
3. 
Change the Start From option to "Current Position".
4. 
For Job Origin, choose the "Center." 
5.
Enable the Rotary function.
6. 
Choose the correct rotary type.

Step 15

Go to "Rotary Setup" and make the changes.

1.
Make sure the Rotary function is enabled.
2.
Choose "Roller" for the type.
3. 
The rotary scale is used when the engraving result is smaller or larger than your oringinal design. (You can leave this setting at "1" in this step.)
4.
You must enable the mirror function for the Mirror if your rotary is reversed (Rollers at right).
If not reversed, leave it disabled.
(Only available for Ador.)

Step 16

Create an engraving object or import your own.

 

Depending on your design, it will usually be rotated 90 degrees to match the same orientation of the material.

Step 17

Use the "Running Frame" function to see the path of the engraving.

  • Choose "Framing"  to see the bounding box of the design or file.
  • After clicking "Start",  the laser head will start moving, and the moving path will indicate the engraving area for this task.
  • The starting point is where your laser nozzle's current position.
  • Its path will depend on the "Job Origin" selected in the Step. When the center is selected, the starting point will be set at the design's center. The center is usually used for rotary jobs.
  • You can move the laser head to change the engraving area until the position is accepted.

Step 18

Once you've confirmed the engraving position, set the correct speed and power rate parameters based on your material.

Step 19

Close the door and start the task.

Step 20

Check the result.

Step 21 (Optional)

⚠︎ If you notice any abnormality in your engraving result, (shortened or elongated), please refer to the video below to adjust the rotation scale settings.

  • If your result is bigger than your original design, set the scaler to 1.5 or 2.0 to make it bigger.
  • If your result is smaller than your original design, set the scaler to 0.5 to make it smaller.

Beambox II + Rotary 2.0

Step 1

Remove the honeycomb and the platform bracket.

Step 3

Re-install the platform bracket.

Step 4

Measure your material's diameter or circumference and record it for later use.
(It's recommended to use the material used for practicing and testing purposes for the first time.)

Please see the table below to install the correct rotary stands and choose the proper focus lens distance according to your object's diameter.

 

Focus Mode Explanation

By default, the focus lens will be at the top, and the focus lens will be 4mm, meaning the distance between the nozzle tip and the surface of the material will have a distance of 4mm.

Step 12

Move the nozzle tip to the center of the area you wish to engrave.
The red light dot indicates and determines the starting position.


Step 13

Launch Beam Studio.

Step 14

Go to "Document Settings" and make the changes.
