5-10 No Laser Beam Output

Description

The reason for a laser failing to output can be complex. It could be caused by a declined laser tube, a broken laser power supply(Laser PSU), or system failure...etc.

Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue.


Possible Causes

  1. The system fails (Re-update the firmware, reset to factory, or reflash SD card.)
  2. The optical path(OPA) is misaligned.
  3. The power rate and speed are set wrong in the software.
  4. The laser tube has declined.
  5. The laser power supply (Laser PSU) is malfunctioning.
  6. The door sensor is malfunctioning. (Less likely)

 

Tools

  1. T8 torx screwdriver
  2. Double-sided tape
  3. Pen or pencil (Optional - Depending on test result)
  4. Magnet x2 (Optional)
  5. Rubber gloves (Optional - Depending on test result)

 

Step 1

Please check the video below and determine if the symptom is similar to your machine.
(If there is no laser output when the Beambox is running and making a loud cracking sound,
it indicates the tube is broken.)


Determine your result and the next action to take:

  • Yes, my machine has a similar symptom or sound >> Stop using the machine and Contact Customer Service 
    • Possible Cause: The laser tube is broken and must be replaced.
  • No, my machine does not have a cracking sound >> Step 2

 

Step 2

Make sure the power rate and speed settings are correct in the software.

Determine your result and the next action to take:

  • Yes, the settings are correct >> Step 2.1
  • No, the settings are correct are not correct >> Change the settings >>
    After changing the settings, if the problem persists, go to Step 2.1

 

Step 2.1

Double your power rate settings, start the task, and see if the laser outputs.
(For example, if your power rate is 15% originally, raise it to 30% and start the task.)

 

Determine your result and the next action to take:

  • Yes, the laser outputs >> Your machine can still work
    • Suggestion: Raise the power rate and lower the speed in every task until the tube declines completely
    • Possible Cause: Your laser tube has slightly declined
  • No, the laser does not output >> Step 3

 

Step 3

Turn off the machine.
Open the back lid and place a new double-layer tape on the first mirror.
If your machine has two magnets on the back cover, the cover has to be put back.
After placing the tape, please go to Step 3.1.

  • Use a T8 screwdriver to unscrew the screws at the back of the machine, and the back cover can be removed afterward.

  • Place the tape on the mirror to have an angle of 90 degrees against the beam.



  • If your machine has two magnets on the back cover, after placing the tape, the back cover has to be put back in order for the machine to detect the door closed, so the pulses can be made.
    (Screwing is not necessary as long as the door close icon can be closed.)


  • You can also place two magnets on the sensors pointed below to make the door close.




Step 3.1

Make 5 pulses and check if the tape has a burnt mark on it.
(Please refer to the examples to determine the result of the tape.)

A. Turn on the machine.
B. Close the lid.
C. Enter Maintain mode and wait til the homing process is done.
     (Make sure the door icon is closed, or you won't be able to make a pulse.)
D. Find the Pulse button.
E. One press = one pulse, two presses = two pulses, and so on.
F. Check the tape
⚠︎ Please always make pulses when the door lid is closed.

  • Yes, it has a burn mark, and the result is good >> Laser output has no problem >> Please Check OPA
  • It has a burn mark, but the result is bad >> Step 6
  • No burnt mark at all >> Step 4


Step 4

  • Remove the front cover by unscrewing these T8 screws.
    (You can refer to the video that has the front cover removal clip.)



  • Unplug the laser control cable on the mainboard.



  • After unplugging the cable, go to Step 4.1.

 


Step 4.1

Please wear rubber gloves before the next action.
Turn on the machine. Press the laser force button twice or hold it for 1-2 seconds with a pen or pencil and check for laser output on the tape.
(Please refer to the examples to determine the result of the tape.)

  • Yes, it has a burn mark, and the result is good >> Step 5
  • It has a burn mark, but the result is bad >> Contact Customer Service
    • Possible Cause: Your laser tube has completely declined and needs replacement.


Step 4.2

Turn off the machine and check if the small black jumper is inserted correctly.

 

Determine your result and the next action to take:

  • Yes, the jumper is originally inserted correctly >> Contact Customer Service
    • Possible Cause:
      • The laser power supply (PSU) is having a problem and needs replacement
      • The laser tube is having a problem and needs a replacement
  • After pushing or replugging, the jumper is now inserted correctly  >> Step 4.1


Step 5

  • Replug the laser control cable.

  • Turn on the machine and reset the machine to the factory.
    Refer to the article, 5-4-11 Reset to Factory.

  • After the reset, please go to Step 5.1.


Step 5.1

Use a new 2-layer tape and make 5 pulses to see if the tape has a burn mark.
(Please refer to the examples to determine the result of the tape.)

 

Determine your result and the next action to take:

  • Yes, it has a burn mark, and the result is good >> Problem Solved
    • Possible Cause: Firmware Issue
  • It has a burn mark, but the result is bad >> Step 6
  • No burnt mark at all >> Contact Customer Service
    • Possible Cause:
      1. The laser control cable is faulty
      2. The mainboard is faulty


Step 6

  • Use a new 2-layer tape and put it on the first mirror.

  • Raise the power rate to x1.5 and make 5 pulses to see if the burnt mark becomes stronger.
    (Please refer to the examples to determine the result of the tape.)

    • Suggestion: Raise the power rate and lower the speed in every task until the tube declines completely.
    • Possible Cause: Your laser tube has slightly declined

    • Possible Cause: Your laser tube has completely declined and needs to be changed
