When performing laser cutting, small parts may fall out during the cutting process, which can affect the accuracy of cutting for other objects. To prevent this, Beam Studio offers a “Tabs” (also known as Bridges) feature that allows users to leave small, uncut segments along the cutting path. These tabs help keep the object fixed to the material until all processing is complete, after which the part can be manually pushed out.
Suitable Scenarios / Objects

This feature is only applicable to unfilled paths (Line mode)
Setup and Workflow
The number and width of tabs should strike a balance—tabs should be easy to break off manually, but strong enough to hold the object in place during cutting.
Since the optimal tab size can vary depending on the thickness and type of material, we recommend testing with your material first to find the ideal tab width and quantity.
1. Select the path you want to cut (must be in Line mode). Then click the Tabs feature in the Object Panel.
2. After enabling the Tabs feature, you can choose between:
Manual Mode (default): Click directly on the path to add tabs wherever you need them.
Automatic Mode: Turn off Manual Mode to access automatic settings. You can define the spacing and width, and the system will automatically distribute tabs evenly along the path.
3. Adjust tab width and spacing in Automatic Mode:
-
Width: Determines the width of the uncut section during cutting. A width of 0.5 mm or less is generally recommended. Smaller tabs are easier to break off.
-
Spacing: The larger the spacing, the fewer tabs will be placed, which increases the chance of the part falling out.
4. When you're done, click Save to apply and save the tab settings.
After Cutting
Once cutting is complete, you can simply break off the parts by hand or use a blade to carefully cut along the tab areas to remove the parts cleanly.
