Directly Connect with a Network Cable (MacOS)

If connecting through a router (WiFi/LAN) is not working, an alternative way is to connect the beamo / Beambox / Beambox Pro and the PC directly with a network cable.

If your Mac doesn't have Ethernet ports, you can purchase an Ethernet USB or Ethernet Type-C adapter on Amazon.

If you're using MacOS Catalina, kindly update the system to at least 10.15.4.

Step 1

Connect the beamo / Beambox / Beambox Pro with an ethernet cable to your computer.

Open Security & Privacy in System Preferences

Step 3

Switch to the Firewall Tab, and Turn Off the Firewall.

Sometimes, you need to click the lock at the bottom left to make changes.

If it's already off, skip this step.

Step 4

Open Sharing in System Preferences.

Step 5

Switch to Internet Sharing, and check the checkbox of your Ethernet Adapter with a name like USB 10/100/1000 LAN, USB 10/100 LAN, or Thunderbolt Ethernet. Set Share your connection from Wi-Fi or Ethernet if you're using a wired network to connect to the Internet.

Check the checkbox of Internet Sharing, there will be a prompt confirming the setup, click Start.

Step 6

Click the network icon at the top right of the screen and select Open Network Preferences.

Find your ethernet adapter (USB 10/100/1000 LAN, USB 10/100 LAN or Thunderbolt Ethernet).

Set Configure IPv4 as Using DHCP with manual address, and set IP Address to 192.168.2.1

Step 7

Go back to the machine touch panel and click Network.

You should see an IP starting with 192.168 in the Ethernet IP column. If the IP starts with 169.254, then there might be some misconfiguration on the Mac side, or you may need to replug the Ethernet cable.

Step 8

In the Beam Studio,

1. Click Menu > Machines > Machine Setup > Direct Connection, click Next
2. Enter the Ethernet IP shown on the Network page at the touch panel instead of using WiFi IP
3. Click Next
4. Once the IP is tested valid, the machine should appear on the list in a minute (sometimes requires restarting Beam Studio).
