This chapter introduces the software features and demonstrates the 4 creation techniques, including Beam Studio creation, importing work files, tracing images, and mass production, and concludes with formatting instructions.
Available for Beam Studio 2.2+.
The software interface can be divided into 5 sections
A. Toolbar
B. Layer and Object Panels
C. Parameter Settings
D. Working Interface
E. Menu
A. Toolbar
Left
Icon | Name | Keyboard Shortcut | Description |
Select | V |
Select specific objects. |
|
Image | I |
Import JPG / PNG / SVG / DXF / AI / PDF files. Drag and drop them directly into the software or paste them directly from the browser after "Copy image". |
|
Text | T |
Add new text objects. When the Infill is not on, there is only a text stroke, once it is on, the text will be solid. |
|
Elements |
Curated cliparts. |
||
Rectangle | M |
Draw rectangles. Able to adjust rounded corners radius. |
|
Polygons |
Draw polygons. The number of polygon vertices can be increased or decreased by using the "+" and "-" keys while drawing. |
||
Oval | L |
Draw ellipses. |
|
Line | \ |
Draw line paths. |
|
Pen | P |

Camera Preview | Enter the camera preview mode. |
Top
- Machine Selector: Choose the machine you want to connect to.
- Run Preview Frame: Preview the task's work scope (specific to Ador).
- Path Preview: View a simulation of the work path before sending the task.
- Start Task: Send the task to the selected machine.
Camera Preview Mode
Icon | Name | Description |
Preview |
Select a range to preview the area of the work materials to be cut or engraved. |
|
Trace Image |
Scan and create a path object from the images of the camera preview. |
|
Clear |
Delete the images previewed by the camera, but the objects of the Trace Image will not be deleted. |
B. Layer and Object Panels
Layer Panel
- Overview: The layer panel shows a list of all layers in your project.
- Add New Layers: Click the "+" button to add a new layer.
- Layer Options: Right-click on any layer to access additional options.
Check the details here: Layer Control.
Object Panel
Click the icon here to open the object panel.
There are five primary types of objects you can work with:
- Image Object
- Text Object or Text On Path Object
- Path Object
- Geometry Object: Includes rectangles, ovals, polygons, and lines
- SVG Object: Imported SVG files
Each object type has specific options and actions. Detailed information for each can be found in the next chapter.
C. Parameter Settings
Layer Parameters
The percentage of laser output power.
Speed (mm/s):
The speed at which the laser head moves, measured in millimeters per second.
Execute (times)
The number of times a single layer is executed for the same job.
Z Step (mm) (Available for FLUX ador, beamo, and HEXA.)
When performing multiple cuts on the same path for a single layer (when "EXECUTE" is greater than 1), you can set the descending amount of the laser head for each cut to handle thicker materials.
Parameter Options
Icon | Name | Description |
Import |
Import all engraving parameters stored in a .json file into the parameter list. |
|
Export |
Export all parameters as a single .json file. |
|
Manage Parameters |
Browse, edit, or delete customized parameters. |
|
Add Current Parameters |
Name and save the current parameter to the parameter list. |
|
Custom Parameters |
Select parameters from the drop-down list. Suggested parameters for common materials are available. |
Tips for Using Parameters
- Since materials vary, start by using the built-in parameters to observe engraving results. Fine-tune them as needed to achieve the desired effect.
- It is recommended to set the power below 70% in Beamo, Beambox, and Beambox Pro to extend the lifespan of the laser tube. However, for Ador and HEXA, using full power has less impact on laser consumption.
- Adjust parameters periodically to account for the normal decline in laser tube performance due to usage and time.
D. Working Interface
The center of the window is the area for importing images or drawing objects. Note that objects should be placed in the area to proceed with the task.
E. Menu
Frequently used functions in each tab are introduced here.
Beam Studio
- About Beam Studio: Display the version of Beam Studio.
- Preferences: Modify default settings such as language, machine IP address, and add-ons.
File
- Open, Save, Save As: Open or save the files.
- Examples: Use various examples, including different files and material engraving tests (different power and speed combinations) to determine the best parameters for new materials.
- Export: Export files to multiple formats, including BVG, SVG, PNG, JPG, and FLUX task. Detailed information on file formats is explained in this chapter.
Edit
- Optimize: Optimize the object arrangement to make the most effective use of the engraving material.
- Document Settings: Adjust settings such as engraving resolution, working area (select the model), and add-ons.
- Clear Scene: Remove all objects from the scene
View
- Show Grids: Display grids in the working interface.
- Use Layer Color: Display the layer colors on objects in that layer.
Machines
- Test Network Settings: Check the network connection quality between the computer and the target machine.
- Calibrate Camera: Run the camera calibration process for the machines, for different addons.
- Update Firmware: Download the firmware from the official website, save it on your computer, and update the machine firmware by selecting the firmware file on your computer. Note: The firmware upgrade takes a few minutes. Do not turn off the machine during the process.
Window
- This is the default menu for Mac systems. Windows and Linux Ubuntu do not have this option.
Help
- Show Start Tutorials: Restart the software beginning tutorial.
- Bug Report: Export a bug report after encountering an error. Ensure the software is not reorganized or shut down before exporting the bug report. Customer Service will guide you through exporting the bug report files to troubleshoot Beam Studio errors.
- Debug Tool: An interface for developers to debug software issues.
