Ador - Passthrough Printing Guide

Description

This article will guide you through setting up the passthrough function and starting a test engraving task after the hardware installation.

Tools

1 Phillips Screwdriver
2 Hex Socket Driver (7mm)
3 Paper Tape (Optional)


Step 1

Detach the machine and the base if they are assembled.

 

Step 2

Unscrew these two screws at the back with a Phillips screwdriver.

 

Step 3

Unscrew the screws underneath the frame.

  • Please note that there might be two or three screws to be removed, depending on the machine you have.
  • The screw type might be 7mm cap nuts, Phillips screws, or thumb screws.
  • In this tutorial, there are two 7mm cap nuts.

 

Step 4

The back passthrough frame can then be removed.
(The screws won't be needed for passthrough, but it's recommended to keep them.)

 

Step 5

Place the back passthrough frame in the designed position.

 

Step 6

Unscrew the two screws.

 

Step 7

Unscrew the screws underneath the front frame.

  • Please note that there might be two or three screws to be removed, depending on the machine you have.
  • The screw type might be 7mm cap nuts, Phillips screws, or thumb screws.
  • In this tutorial, there are two 7mm cap nuts.

 

Step 8

The front passthrough frame can then be removed.

 

Step 9

Remove the two clips on the front frames.
(These two clips won't be necessary for passthrough, but it's suggested to keep them in case of any future needs. Please refer to the installation of non-passthrough.)

 

Step 10

Place the front passthrough frame in the designed position.

 

Step 11

Assemble the machine and the extension base.

 

 

Step 12

Place the honeycomb into the 37mm/1.4 inches layer or the 77mm/3.0 inches layer according to your material's thickness. Please refer to the article for honeycomb installation.

Step 13

Insert the material into the machine. It is strongly recommended that you use unwanted or used material for the first time for practice purposes.

The maximum thickness of the material for the Ador passthrough function is 15mm.

 

When inserting the material, please avoid getting the material stuck by the power cord and the vent hose as in the bad examples below.

 

There are two scenarios for placing the materials. Please see the instructions below.

0 - 3 mm Materials

  • Place the honeycomb in the 37mm / 1.4 inches layer.
  • Insert the material directly into the machine and place it on the honeycomb.
    (It is suggested that you push the material to the left to align the frame.)

 

3 - 15 mm Materials

  • Place the honeycomb in the 77mm / 3.0 inches layer.
  • Place some materials on the honeycomb to raise your target material.
  • Place the target material above the bottom materials.
    (It is suggested that you push the material to the left to align the frame.)

 

Step 14

Put paper tape right beside the edge of the material on the honeycomb or on the bottom material.
The tape is applied to align each engraving, and we will cover how to use it later in the article.

0 - 3 mm Materials

  • Apply the tape on the honeycomb directly.

 

3 - 15 mm Materials

  • Prepare a side material that has the same or +/- 3mm thickness as your target material.
  • Make sure it is thin enough to put on the bottom material together with your target material.
  • Apply the paper tape to the side material and place it right next to your target material.

 

Important Note

  • The target material and the side material is best to be the same thickness.
  • A difference of Max. 3mm between these two materials will be acceptable.
  • A difference of more than 3mm between these two materials will NOT be acceptable.

 

Step 14.1

Place the priming sticker on the side material for pre-spray purposes.

 

 

Step 15

Turn on the machine and perform auto-focus on your material.

 

Step 16

Please make sure you have the following software and firmware versions to use Ador's rotary function.

Beam Studio Version 2.3.7 or above. (Guide)

 The firmware version 5.3.2 or above. (Guide) 

 

Step 17

Enable the Passthrough function in Beam Studio.

Set the length of your material.

Step 18

Draw a long rectangle and fill it in black, or import your own design.

 

Step 19

Perform camera preview.

 

Place the design in the desired position.

Step 20

Open the Pass through settings.

 

Explanation of Each Settings

1. Object Length
2. Work Area (Height)
3. Reference Layer

4. Guide Mark

 

1. Object Length

Object Length is the length of your design or imported file measured by the software.

 

2. Work Area (Height)

Work Area (Height) is the length of each engraving section.
The setting range can be set from a minimum of 120mm to a maximum of 240mm.
Please see the examples below for details.

Example 1

If your object is 300mm in length, setting the Work Area to 240mm will require two engravings, whereas one engraving can only finish up to 240mm of work.
Therefore, the rest, say 60mm, will be finished in the second section/engraving.
(It's only a concept; the actual engraving length will depend on where the object is placed in Beam Studio.)

Example 2

If your object is 300mm in length, setting the Work Area to 120mm will require three engravings, whereas one engraving can only finish up to 120mm of work.

 

 

3. Reference Layer

Reference Layer is a tool that automatically creates different layers based on the number of sections you have after exporting to the work area.

 

Example

If your object is 300mm in length, setting the Work Area to 120mm will require three engravings, so you will have three sections, which indicates three layers and you will find the different layers will engrave different sections of your object.

4. Guide Mark

Guide Mark is a tool used to match the finish lines between each section of engraving.
This tool will actually engrave two circles, and half of the circle has to be out of your material.
After the first engraving, you can use the inner half circle on your object to align the other outer half. This article will cover how to use these circles later. Please continue reading.

 

Additional settings for the Guide Mark

 

1. Diameter

The Diameter setting is the size of the circles, and its default value is 40mm.

2. X Coordinate

The X Coordinate setting determines the location of the two circles, depending on the size of your material. Its default value is 390mm.

Step 21

Change the Pass Through settings if necessary based on your design or file.
If you are following our example, you can use the settings below for engraving the rectangle.

 

Step 22

After exporting, you will see the auto-created layers and the two circles.
Move the circles so that half are in the material and the other half are on the tape.
(Change the X-axis value to move the circles is suggested.)

 

Infill the circles.
(If the circles are not filled, as the lines are too thin, they may not be visible after printing.)

 

Step 23

Set your parameters based on your material make sure to change parameters in all the layers.

Enable only Layer 1 and the Guide Mark. Hide the others, as they will be printed after.

In this example, I've changed the all layers to a single color layer and black.

Place the pre-spray area in the place of the sticker.

Step 24

Start the task.
(Make sure that only Layer 1 and the Guide Mark are enabled. The others must be hidden.)

 

After you start the task, you may be asked to change the color cartridge several times until the task finishes. Please follow the instructions on the touch screen of the machine.



 

Step 25

After the first engraving, move your material to align the bottom half circle on the material and the upper half circle on the tape.
Please hold the tape while moving your material to prevent position change.


 

Step 26

Make sure that the material is flat. If it tilts, using a heavy object or tape to fix it in place is suggested.
In this example, the tape is applied.

Please be careful that using an object may block the path of the laser head, so smaller objects are better to be used.

Step 27

As the first layer and the guide mark have been printed, we must continue to print the second layer. Therefore, you will have to manually disable the finished layer and enable the next layer. The guide mark layer will only be disabled at the last printing.

If you are following our example, please check:

  • Hide the first layer as its part is finished.
  • The Guide Mark layer will only be disabled at your last engraving.
    In this example, it only requires two engravings, so the Guide Mark layer will be disabled at the second engraving.
  • Enable the second layer for the second printing, which is the last layer in this example.
  • The reference layer has the ending of the first layer, so it can be used for alignment between layers; it does not have any output set in the parameters, so enabling it or not won't affect the task.

 

Step 28

Start the task again.

 

After you start the task, you may be asked to change the color cartridge several times until the task finishes. Please follow the instructions on the machine's touch screen.



 

 

Step 29

Check the result.
