Description
This article is for troubleshooting the problem of the autofocus function.
For example, the Z-axis(Module) has no response, the Z-axis(Module) moves abnormally, or the Z-axis(Module) homing fails...etc.
If the problem of your machine is having an incorrect focus distance, please refer to the article to adjust the focus distance.
Please note that the causes of an Auto-Focus function failure may vary. The issue might persist after following the steps below.
However, you are still able to collect useful information for the FLUX team to clarify the issue more effectively.
Step 0 - Use the checklist to follow up the steps and put the results on record
This list marks down all the tests you've done in the tutorial.
After the tests are done, please kindly save the list as a PDF document and send it to your reseller or FLUX team.

Step 1 - Remove the material
In order to rule out the possibility of the original material being the cause, please remove it from the work area and make sure the bottom cover is installed securely.
After that, perform an auto-focus, the module should go straight down to the bottom cover.
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
Step 2 - Remove the module
If the module has been installed, please remove it first to let the machine be in a state without any external interference.
After removing, go to Step 3 - Enter the control mode |
Step 3 - Enter the control mode
Directly go to the control mode as shown in the video below.
(For users being stuck in the Start-up test, please skip the Start-up test - Guide)
After entering the mode, go to Step 3.1 - Use the same material and perform auto-focus again |
Step 3.1 - Use the same material and perform autofocus again
Please make sure the material has a flat surface before focusing.
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
Step 3.2 - Re-install the module and check the correct way to perform an auto-focusing.
Please first refer to the following articles to re-install the module and also the correct way of focusing.
10W/20W Diode Laser Module | 2W Infrared Laser Module | Printing Module |
After the re-installation, use the same material and perform another auto-focus.
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
Step 4 - Exclude the possibility of firmware issues
An unsuccessful firmware installation might cause the Z-axis motor to be unfunctional or cause the system to capture incorrect parameters. Resetting to factory settings can eliminate the possibility of firmware issues effectively.
- First, reset to factory (Main Page > Machine > Settings > Reset to Factory > Yes)
-
After factory reset, follow the steps in the link on How to update the machine firmware and ensure it is updated to the latest version.
- After the update, please try auto-focusing again.
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
Step 5 - Check the top limit switch of the Z-axis
Auto-focus function being unfunctional may be caused by a faulty top limit switch.
Please find the switch and press it with a finger or a pen then check if the Z-axis icon on the screen in control mode behaves normally.
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
|
Step 6 - Check the probe of the auto-focus module
Directly push the probe with one finger to check if the probe can be triggered physically.
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
Step 7 - Re-plug the cables on the Z-axis board
Please re-plug the cables on the Z-axis to make sure the problem is not caused by an incorrect connection and perform another focus after that.
Steps:
Power OFF > Re-plug cables (Back of the module seat) > Power ON > Control mode >
Auto-focus
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
Step 8 - Perform auto-focus with the physical button
Using the physical button to focus will not go through the operating system.
Therefore, this can be used to determine whether the cause is hardware-related or system-related.
Please use the button to focus and see if it is functioning.
Determine your result and the next action to take:
|
|
Step 9 - Contact Customer Service
- Please follow the instructions in the link below to properly report an issue to your local reseller or FLUX support. [Contact Customer Service]
- Ensure you've completed the checklist and saved it as a PDF file to share your actions.
*The collected information, such as photos or videos showing your machine's problem in this article, will be necessary to be shared with the reseller or FLUX Support.
